Illinois circuit judges are elected to serve six-year terms. They can decide any kind of case, except redistricting of the General Assembly or the ability of the governor to serve in office. Decisions of the circuit court can be appealed to the appellate court.

Deidre Baumann is the owner of Baumann & Shuldiner, a civil litigation practice.  Ms. Baumann appears in both State and Federal Courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, on a wide variety of matters, including personal injury, civil rights, and employment discrimination. She was lead counsel in the Burr Oak Cemetery litigation, having filed the first class action suit in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. 

Ms. Baumann graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Law in 1992, receiving that year, the Rickert Award for Excellence in Public Service.  Immediately after sitting for the Bar Examination, she began working as an intern at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, where she assisted with felony jury trials.  After leaving the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, she began working at a small boutique firm specializing in First Amendment law, where she represented persons restrained from engaging in constitutionally protected speech.  In 1996, Ms. Baumann then left her firm and opened the Law Offices of Deidre Baumann, where she continued to litigate issues of constitutional import.  In September of 2001, Ms. Baumann joined forces with her partner, now deceased.

Deidre Baumann has been an active member of the Bar.  She is currently President of the Decalogue Society of Lawyers and has served on the Executive Boards for the Women’s Bar Association of Illinois and the Chicago Bar Association, Alliance for Women.  She has also served as Justice of Phi Alpha Delta, Chicago Alumni Chapter, and is former President of the North Suburban Bar Association.  She is serving on the Public Affairs and Interfaith Committees with the Chicago Bar Association and has served as the Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee and Planning Committee for a Seminar on Hate Speech.  In addition, she was  appointed by the Chicago Bar Association, Board of Managers, to the Judicial Re-Map Subcommittee as well as the Anti-Terrorism Legislation Task Force. 

Ms. Baumann is an active member of her community.  She is currently a Board member of the Lane Tech Alumni Association, Lane Tech being her High School Alma Mater, and since 2004, she has served as President of the Chicago/Cook County 4-H Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing scholarships for deserving 4-H youth who are attending a college or university. 

Ms. Baumann has been endorsed by the Independent Voters of Illinois - Independent Precinct Organization and others.  She has been found qualified or recommended by the Asian American Bar Association, Black Women Lawyers Association, Cook County Bar Association, Decalogue Society of Lawyers, Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, Hellenic Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers, Illinois State Bar Association, The Puerto Rican Bar Association, and The Woman’s Bar Association of Illinois.  For more information, please visit deidrebaumannforjudge.com.
